September 2025 Internal Competition Theme: Monochrome Simplicity

Visual Impact

The challenge with September’s theme is to use a single colour or grayscale (black and white) to capture your subject using the interplay of light, shadow and texture. The goal is to create a strong visual impact that focuses on the essential elements of the scene, without the distraction of colour.

Light and Composition

Light will be a crucial tool for defining form and creating depth in your image. Composition is equally important, and you will want to use the placement of your subject and the negative space around it to create your desired mood, such as calm, isolation or contemplation.

All post-processing techniques are permitted, except any that are AI-generated. Typical post-processing for minimalist monochrome photography includes dodging, burning, refining contrast and enhancing clarity.
