Shutter Bear has just joined our club and will be involved in our events and promotions. He is going to be a great addition to our club.
You are going to see him around quite often in the various goings on in the club. You may see him in the media and other public places.
Shutter Bear doesn’t need much looking after. Shutter Bear only wants to be hugged once in a while and be taken care of.
Below is the research Dennis Crabtree did in finding out who this Shutter Bear is and where he came from. Read the story as it is a very interesting adventure by Shutter Bear.
As far as I know, we are the only camera club who has a mascot. Another first for our club.

The Story of Shutter Bear
Shutter Bear was born in the lush forests just north of Victoria, British Columbia, a place filled with towering cedars, moss-covered trails, and streams sparkling under sunlight. From his earliest days, he explored every corner of the woods, fascinated by the beauty around him. His adventurous spirit and insatiable curiosity soon drew him toward photography; a passion sparked one afternoon when a group of friendly hikers paused near his den. He watched with awe as they carefully framed their shots, capturing the fleeting magic of the natural world in their cameras.
Determined to pursue this newfound passion, Shutter-bear began practicing with a makeshift ‘pretend’ camera crafted from forest treasures like pinecones, bark, and leaves. He patiently imagined perfect photographs—sunlight filtering gently through leaves, the morning dew delicately suspended on spider webs, and candid glimpses of his fellow forest creatures. His woodland friends, noticing his dedication, gifted him a real camera left behind by another hiker, sparking even greater enthusiasm and creativity in his photographic pursuits.
Eventually, Shutter-bear ventured into Victoria and discovered the welcoming Victoria Camera Club. His favorite photographic subjects naturally became wildlife and nature—capturing the delicate beauty of hummingbirds, majestic eagles, and playful seals—but he also fell in love with street photography, attracted by its similarity to trail photography, He quickly became the club’s beloved mascot, inspiring photographers of all ages with his warmth and playful approach to photography. Today, Shutter-bear encourages others to explore, cherish, and capture the beauty surrounding them, reminding everyone of the wonders waiting to be discovered through a camera lens.
