The Theme for March is Macro: “Capture a close up view of the world – let your creativity shine.”

What is macro?

Macro means big, the process of making small bigger. Make the minuscule larger than life.

Ideally Macro photography creates an image on the camera sensor that is the same size as in real life – this is known as 1:1 magnification. In general, the term is much broader meaning the close up of a flower or insects or a leaf etc. The purpose is to reveal the intricacies of a subject not usually seen by a casual observer. Seeing the world from a new perspective.

Technical tips

You do not need special equipment, but there is basic equipment that will assist you in creating a macro photograph.  That first piece of equipment would be a tripod or something to keep your set up stable. If you are photographing outdoors, cloudy midday will make your colours more vibrant. Carefully choose your aperture for optimal depth of field. Of course you can have special equipment such as extension tubes, close up filters or even a macro lens.
