November 3, 2025 — The Power of Imagery to Push Creative Boundaries with Gerri Jones via Zoom
The event will be held on November 3, 2025 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM via Zoom.
Note: This workshop will start at 6:30 PM to accommodate time zone difference.
Registration is Open
About This Workshop
This presentation will focus on how we choose to create stories with our imagery that resonate with your own personal photographic journey. Ways to overcome a creative rut are discussed with helpful strategies. Choosing to create photographs, by always using a standard set of rules which seek perfection, can sometimes lead us to missed opportunities to make a “beautiful mess”.
Gerri will discuss how choosing to shoot with the addition of all manual optics (such as Lensbabies or Vintage lenses), has led her to a more creative path… a path which let’s go of perfection and pushes oneself to challenge those creative boundaries for personal growth.
About Gerri Jones
Gerri enjoys photographing all subjects and especially the challenge of new ways to see through the creative use of Lensbaby lenses. She is a Lensbaby Ambassador.
Gerri has been a featured speaker/instructor at regional camera conferences including Mike Moats Macro Conventions, Hazel Meredith’s Creative Photography Conferences, New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) Photo Conference and Out of Chicago Conferences. Gerri also instructs in creative photography presentations with camera clubs, in person or online.
Gerri’s images have been featured in several publications, commercial proposals and she also has reviewed several photography books for development by Focal Press Publications. Her images have received several first place awards in national, regional and online photo competitions.
Gerri resides in Buffalo, New York.

About This Workshop
This workshop is designed for you to learn from other VCC members how they created their remarkable images. This informative workshop has five of our members describe how they envisioned, shot and processed one of their terrific images. Each image has unique qualities of interest to members. Most of them are also winning images in internal or external competitions. This workshop was inspired by the How I Did It feature that used to be in our club’s Close-Up Magazine.
Each photographer will spend about 15 minutes describing their vision for the shot, how they took it, how they processed it and challenges they may have encountered. There will be opportunities for questions.
The photographers and the winning images they will describe are:
Erin Flanagan for her captivating image Kyoto Station Stack Cutout, which won 2nd place in the club’s Year End Altered Reality category, 2025.
Jerome Rozitis for his stunning image Amphitrite Lighthouse at Night, which placed 3rd in the Year End Intermediate Print Open category, 2025.
Robert Benn for his exciting action surfing image Winter Session, shown as part of a Members Night this past spring
Richard James for his beautifully textured Fountains Abbey – Vaulted Cellarium image, which received Honourable Mention at the Year End Advanced Print Monochrome category, 2025
Lori Moilanen for her powerful Elegance at Full Throttle image, which won the 2nd Merit Award with CAPA’s Digital Black and White competition and an Honourable Mention with PSA’s National InterClub Photo Competition
November 24, 2025 — Beyond the Single Image: Create your Own Photography Project and Portfolio (Part 1) with Lori Moilanen via Zoom
The event will be held on November 24, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM via Zoom.
Note: This is a three-session workshop. Registration for Session 1 will enroll you for all sessions.
Registration opens on October 25, 2025 at 9:00 AM
About This Workshop
This three-session Zoom workshop is designed to provide participants with the basic skills and confidence to move beyond single images to creating collections of photographs that work together to tell a story, express a creative vision, amplify a message, and/or elevate an everyday subject.
This is a hands-on workshop: each participant will develop a photo project on a subject of their choice, a 12-photo digital portfolio to showcase the results of their project, and a vision statement to accompany their work. The workshop sessions are scheduled to provide time for participants to independently develop their project from existing photos, newly created work, or a combination of both. All subjects that comply with VCC guidelines are welcome: nature, people, street, abstracts, architecture, pets, altered reality – they’re all good! Please, no AI-generated images (although AI-enhanced editing tools such as those found in Lightroom and Photoshop are allowed).
Participants will have the opportunity to share their completed projects with the workshop group in Session 3. There will be additional opportunities to share final portfolios with all club members in a special VCC website gallery and in slideshow format at the March Members’ Night meeting.
Photographers of all skill levels are welcome. While we will visit some technical subjects, the emphasis of this workshop will be on exploration, fun, and creativity. Cell phone photographers are also welcome.
