Photography Plus: Understand Your Camera and Improve Your Photos
Course Description
Do you love photography, but aren’t always happy with your photographs? This course—for those new to photography or their camera—will cover the basics of camera use and composition. You’ll learn how to operate your camera, take part in creative exercises and create new images!

Please bring your camera, which should have a manual control setting, and a notebook and pen to each class.

Documentary Photography: Creating the Personal Project
Course Description
By learning and applying the techniques of documentary photographers to your personal photo work, you will create a project that will allow you to explore your creative side while improving your general photography and camera-handling skills. Each week, you will create new images for your project and bring those images to share with the class. This can be an existing project or something new and initiated by the class experience.
This is a course about creativity, not equipment. Use whatever camera you own, digital or film. A notebook and pen is required for these sessions.

Travel and Street Photography
Course Description
Elevate your travel photography by learning how to overcome shyness when photographing people, breathe new life into your landscape shots and select photos worthy of Instagram. Explore essential travel and street photography gear, master camera settings, improve composition and understand the role of lighting to enhance your images. Gain inspiration from renowned photographers and practice your skills on guided photo walks through downtown Victoria.

DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls is required for this course, released at 2016 or later.

Photo Editing with Integrity
Course Description
In photo editing, using programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom, we can enhance images or render them unrecognizable as photographs—hence the term ‘Photoshop’ is lauded and scorned in equal amounts. A course for photographers wishing to enhance their images gimmick-free with a film-like, old school mindset utilizing digital know-how. When, why and how to edit will be covered including editing software options. There will be five image assignments viewed and critiqued in-class.

This course will require the use of Zoom and may use other education technology such as internet-based applications, cloud services, or social media. In order to complete this course you will be required to either consent to the disclosure of your personal information outside of Canada to enable use of these technologies, or work with the Division of Continuing Studies to explore other privacy protective options (such as using an alias or nickname).

Organization and Backup of Images
Course Description
In today’s digital age, we take thousands of photos, making it essential for modern photographers to learn how to select, organize and back up images on their computer. This course will introduce simple methods, and review the best applications available for effective image management. You’ll gain valuable basic skills to streamline your workflow and safeguard your photos.
