Year End Awards Gala
May 16, 2024 was an entertaining evening to honour the 80 th anniversary of the Victoria Camera
Club and to present our year end awards. It was great to have so many people together in
person to celebrate!
After a welcome from our president, James Dies, we watched the 80th Anniversary video, put
together by Richard Letourneau. You can watch the original version here 80th Anniversary
Video. There have been countless accomplishments over 80 years, from salons to
commemorative photo books!
We then announced the year end winners in each of the sixteen competition categories.
Congratulations to our 2023/24 Distinguished Photographers: Kathryn Delany (Advanced), Tom
Stewart (Intermediate) and Jake Saito (Novice). You can see photos of all the award winners in
attendance at 2023/24 Internal Competitions Awards. A special thank you to Stephen Lustig for
being our photographer for the evening!
At the break, we enjoyed cake and the camaraderie of our fellow photographers. The buzz in
the room reminded many of our past Competition Nights when we gathered in person. A gallery
of the social side of the evening is at 23/24 Year End Awards Gala social photos. Please feel
free to add any of your own photos to the gallery.
VCC has had a stellar year in external competitions and Richard Letourneau reflected on our
success. Alec Lee paid tribute to the Workshops Committee for their hard work this last year.
Many attendees voted on which of the “Throwback Themes” from 1948 they would like to see
used next year. We will be announcing the themes in June 2024.
Thank you to the VCC Board for providing door prizes and surprises for the evening. And a big
thank you to our Internal Competitions Committee members, especially Geof Squarok and
Graeme Weir for getting the print displays up so that all who attended could appreciate the great
prints that had won during the year. Committee members Denise Ashby and Pam Irvine have
also played invaluable roles this past year.
The Internal Competitions Committee wishes everyone a summer filled with wonderful
photographic opportunities and looks forward to seeing the results in next year’s competitions!
